The Ryder Cup Reception on 29th August raised crucial funds for The Elizabeth Montgomerie Foundation. This convivial and unique event was held at Gleneagles to celebrate the Ryder Cup at Celtic Manor. Colin Montgomerie, the 2010 European Captain, hosted the evening, and invited MC Dougie Donnelly, former Ryder Cup team mate David Howell, and former Scotsman golf correspondent Mike Aitken to join in the evening’s discussions on the Ryder Cup, past and future.

The foursome harked back to favourite Ryder Cup moments, lamented over top golf courses and discussed tactics on both sides of the pond. One of the highlights of the evening was the opportunity for four raffle winners to pose their very own questions to the panel. This opened up the discussion to future golf prospects and potential rookies for next year. Colin hopes to see at least 2 rookies in his team – watch this space for updates as Colin’s team starts to take shape over the coming months. In fact, one young rising star on the evening, Stewart Melville, outbid the crowd in the silent auction to walk away with the top prize of a round of golf with Colin and Ally McCoist at Loch Lomond Golf Club.

The overall highlight of the reception was the final announcement: the 150 strong crowd had raised a massive total of £46,000 for The Elizabeth Montgomerie Foundation. Colin and Gaynor Montgomerie were ecstatic and profusely thanked guests, donors and friends of the charity.

The Elizabeth Montgomerie Foundation was created in memory of Colin’s mother, and in conjuction with Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centres, the first venture of the Foundation will be the creation of the Elizabeth Montgomerie Building at Monkland’s Hospital in Lanarkshire. This building aims to provide practical and emotional support to cancer patients and their families.
