You may be aware that the Queen Mother’s Hospital in Glasgow will close its doors in January, 2010, and transfer its services to the site of The Southern General Hospital. The Queen Mother’s Hospital was opened by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, on 23rd September, 1964.

The closure of this hospital marks the end of an era in Glasgow and as a respected, local business, we would like to offer you the opportunity to share in this celebration and contribute to its success, giving the Hospital and its staff the farewell they deserve. To this end we ask if you would consider co-sponsoring the event to the value of £550.

How the Sponsorship can help you:

• Raise levels of brand awareness
• Benefit from media value generated from press coverage in SCENE Around – Scottish Field Magazine

The “Rebirth of the Queen Mother’s” will be celebrated with a dinner dance at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Glasgow on 20th November, 2009. The dinner will be attended by consultants, along with approximately 200 staff of the Queen Mother’s Hospital, past and present, medical and non-medical. Prior to the dinner, the Crowne Plaza will be host to a scientific convention. This event will allow medical and midwifery staff from near and far to have the opportunity to hear state of the art lectures, to exchange ideas and to meet colleagues and friends, past and present.

The Package of Rights:

• Acknowledgements on the night
• Branding on all press releases (subject to timing of agreement of sponsorship)
• Branding on menus / table plans / raffle envelopes
• 2 Places at the dinner dance

Once you have had the opportunity to consider this sponsorship opportunity, please contact Patricia Steeples at scotrcog@rcpsg.ac.uk, who will be able to assist with any queries and payment details should you decide to go ahead.

Please keep checking our website for sponsorship and advertising opportunities – you never know, we might just have the prefect vehicle to promote your brand!

Wednesday 30th September saw a great night for events in Glasgow with the MOBO Awards being held outside London for the first time in 14 years.

With acts like N-Dubz, Mr Hudson, Chipmunk, JLS and Tinchy Stryder all performing live, and the inimitable Keri Hilson and Reggie Yates as presenters for the evening, it was always going to be a dramatic evening with everyone looking for tickets and wanting to be a part of it. Elaine Hamilton was a guest at the Awards this year, and details her experience below.

I arrived at the MOBOs just in time to walk along the red carpet as both Tinchy Stryder and Mr Peter Andre (presenting backstage for the MOBOs) exited their cars. I was astounded by the hype and excitement generated by the Glasgow crowd, everybody dressed up to the nines and super super stylish in the way only Glasgow could be at 6.00pm on a chilly Autumn evening.

As I enjoyed all that the event had to offer, lucky enough to have access to the VIP area and later, a table close to the stage, I was hit by what a fantastic showcase this was for Scotland and for Glasgow. The acts were exciting and entertained throughout, the tribute to Michael Jackson was, of course, significant to everybody at the SECC in their own way, but most importantly for us as event organisers was the demonstration of what we can take on and what can be delivered by the exceptional talents in Glasgow and across Scotland.

The company has managed and organised a whole host of services for me, and was especially helpful when I moved from Scotland to England. They arranged most of the logistical and administrative elements of the moving process on my behalf, which can be very difficult when you come from abroad and you are not aware of the procedures in the UK. I would like to reiterate how helpful the team was and would like to thank them all again for their hard work.

Cafe Gandolfi hosted one of Glasgow’s largest and most extravagant pop-up bars over the September weekend, ‘Gandolfi Goes Pop’. Hutcheson’s Hall opened its doors for the first time in two years as the backdrop for one of the launch events of the Merchant City Festival, as Cafe Gandolfi got ready to celebrate 30 years at the heart of both the Merchant City and indeed Scotland’s restaurant scene. The Merchant City Festival brings the throngs along: http://www.merchantcityglasgow.com/news_articles/39

extratime popped in to the pop-up Perrier-Jouet Champagne bar at the weekend to check out the hard work of Gandolfi pioneer Seumas MacInnes. Brands bared their wares to intrigued visitors to the 4 day event, while burlesque dancers, fire-eaters and musicians entertained the merry throng. To heighten the glamour, models showing off clothes by Vivienne Westwood and Derryck Walker for Harris Tweed Hebrides wandered the historic building. For more information on ‘Gandolfi Goes Pop’, please check out the Scottish Herald: http://www.heraldscotland.com/news/home-news/bubbly-set-to-fizz-as-at-risk-historic-venue-wins-reprieve-1.919727

The National Trust for Scotland is due to meet to determine the fate of Hutchesons’ Hall in the coming weeks. Hopefully ‘Gandolfi Goes Pop’ got enough people through the doors to prove once and for all that this architectural icon in Glasgow deserves to be back front and centre as a venue and as a treasure in the city.

As for the risqué nature of revolutionary occasions, which may be du jour in London, and even in Edinburgh (during the festival), what is the consensus in Glasgow? Is the jury still out on guerrilla events, or do we all agree that one-off experiential ‘pop-ups’ really are the way forward for a city full to the brim with talent, new and old? At extratime, we definitely vote for any opportunity to push boundaries, utilising lesser-known or abandoned venues to showcase local talent. If you agree with us, we would love to hear your thoughts on experiential campaigns and drum up the design for another eye-popping event.

Were you at the 4 day extravaganza? Let’s compare notes! Fire over an email to me at nicola@extratimegroup.com to discuss!

This is a great opportunity to join forces with Colin Montgomerie and the Hotel du Vin / Malmaison group to gain publicity by sponsoring a charity walk along the spectacular West Highland Way from Glasgow to Fort William. Colin hopes to raise £100,000 for the Elizabeth Montgomerie Foundation, which he set up in memory of his mother. As a sponsorship partner, your organisation would benefit from high profile media coverage, a strong corporate alliance with Hotel du Vin and Malmaison, plus a range of sponsorship rights.

Dundee United recently asked extratime to help maximise the fundraising potential of their recent Gala Centenary Dinner, ending up with donations of around £12,000 as a direct result. First Minister Alex Salmond was the special guest at this glittering event, held on 11 September and hosted by Lorraine Kelly and Brian Taylor. extratime ran two hugely successful fundraising activities for the 550 guests: an enticing raffle with fantastic prizes, as well as a silent auction. We put our experience to good use, encouraging guests to participate whilst ensuring they had a good time too. The silent auction saw feverish anonymous bidding for covetable prizes such as signed Dundee United photographs and shirts, as the latest bids were displayed in real time. At the end of the night, everyone was a winner!
